Thank you to our wonderful West Hartford community and all the visitors from surrounding towns who helped make Bike West Hartford’s Celebrate booth a huge success! Despite a rainy start to the weekend, we parked about 200 bikes in our valet spaces. We were especially excited to see many family cargo bikes and trailers which have become a fantastic way for families to move around town actively and sustainably. On Sunday we had typically 70 or 80 bikes parked at at any given time, in the space it would have taken to park just THREE cars! We gave away well over a hundred free bike helmets and engaged with hundreds of members of our community.

The week leading up to this event has been very difficult, and our hearts go out to those who have been affected by the loss of Stephen Mendelsohn and the injury of the pedestrian on Saturday morning. We hope that the productive discussions we had with you all at Center Streets will help us build coalitions and build grassroots pressure to make our streets safer.

We also have not only reached, but actually exceeded our Center Streets funding goal!

A large number of individual small donors have pushed us over the goal line during Celebrate. You all have been unbelievably generous in helping us with this funding campaign. Since we have some extra funding this year, we’ll find ways to make this year’s event extra special and fun. Center Streets 2025 will be the best yet! We can’t say it enough: THANK YOU!
