Input Welcome on PBC Bicycle Facilities Plan, Jan 8

The Town-appointed Pedestrian and Bicycle Commission (PBC) invites public input at their Monday Jan 8th 2024 7-8:30pm in Town Hall Room 400 on their process to revise the West Hartford Bicycle Facilities Plan, which was last updated in 2016. Chair Ed Pawlak writes:

“The main item on the agenda will be a presentation by staff of FHI Studio on the project to update the town’s Bicycle Facility Plan and Bicycle Network Map. There will be ample opportunity for commissioners and the public to ask questions of FHI regarding this important project.”

At a prior meeting, the PBC created a ranked list of town and state roads where safe and convenient bicycle facilities are most needed, based on the following factors:

  • Social justice
  • Commuting
  • Schools and parks
  • Highest crash data
  • Commerce and other destinations
  • Accessibility to network
  • Connecting to other communities

In their list below, the PBC noted that some roads already have a bicycle facility (such as a painted lane or sharrow), but not necessarily the type that most bicyclists consider safe or comfortable.
