A Call to Action: Quick-Builds for Road Safety

Join Bike West Hartford on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 7:25 PM as we address West Hartford Town Council to insist upon action to address recognized dangerous road conditions.

Nine people have been killed on West Hartford streets and one critically injured since 2022. Vision Zero was launched in 2023 and in 2024 the town received a $3,178,000 Safe Streets For All (SS4A) grant to prevent future tragedies, but still most of the High Injury Network has yet to be addressed.

Jason Wang, Bike West Hartford board member, travelled to Hoboken, NJ and New Haven, CT to observe implementation of quick-build improvements in these cities and has established contacts with their engineers and planners. At the Town Council meeting he will share what he learned and offer these contacts to the Town of West Hartford planning and engineering team to support our local efforts for safe streets for all.

Please join us this Tuesday to implore the town to implement inexpensive and effective quick-builds now, such as curb extensions and raised crosswalks, to address our dangerous road conditions. Doing nothing is far greater than the cost of intervention.
