We’re proudly announcing a new addition to this year’s Center Streets “block party on wheels” open streets festival in the four-block West Hartford Center area from 9am-1pm on Sunday August 25th, 2024.
Bike West Hartford is raising funds to pay the Town of West Hartford to temporarily create a separated bike lane extension from the Trout Brook Trail to our open streets event in the Center. Setting aside 1 of the 4 traffic lanes on this one-block section of Farmington Avenue (from Trout Brook Trail to South Main Street) makes it safer for more people to bike and stroll to Center Streets, and also demonstrates how the Town can build more walk-and-bike-friendly pathways to the Town’s small business district. In the future, we encourage the town to consider a road diet to replace 2 of the 4 traffic lanes with bike-and-bus-only lanes on this overbuilt one-block section of Farmington Avenue, since the adjacent sections are narrower than 4 lanes.
Donate to Bike West Hartford to help us pay the costs for this temporary demonstration during Center Streets and safer streets for all neighborhoods!
